“Digital Detox” refers to refraining from technology like smartphones and computers. It can also be an achievement or a commitment to a specific length of time that results in a specific measurement of reduction in using those devices. “Digital Detox” refers to refraining from technology like smartphones and computers. Create a digital app that encourages device users to conduct a digital detox. Think about the flow, tone benefits and name if the application.
Three software engineers and myself as a visual designer.
We had 2.5 hours to complete the prototype so we had to use our time wisely. First thing first was to brainstorm our ideas and find a solution. We decided to make our detox application a game with rewards because having incentives is what will get people to play, much like the apple rewards system when you complete your step count, they award you a digital medal.
We came up with the idea of a game where you get to play against friends. The more time you put your phone down the more points you gain at the end of the week then looser buys the beers! Making it fun and having rewards is what we believed would have our users be involved.
We called our detox application Guerdon which means reward or recompense. Using a blue and white palette also gave it a clean modern feel to it.
We wanted to keep the application simple because we wanted the user to be able to access the timer quickly and be able to set the timer. We used an hour glass as the representation for the timer. As time ran out I managed to insert some animations to application to be able to stand out.
Teams had only two minutes to present their prototypes to the audience. Where we introduced ourselves and our application. I was nominated by our team to present it.
